The “Street Seats” program is an annual recurring collaboration with the NYC Department of Transportation and Parsons School of Design to produce an urban public space in a curbside zone located on 13th St and 5th Ave during a semester. The installation will be open from May to December 2025, at which point it will be dismantled and relocated to a public sector in New York City, still undecided.
The project was a class project led by Ross Myren and Maya Mcglynn and involved students across disciplines to develop, prototype, and manufacture the public seating.
We were fortunate to have our main supplier be Tri-Lox Workshop; a Design, Fabrication & Sustainable Wood Supplier, who provided us reclaimed cedar from NYC Water Towers and a lot of mentorship and help along the way. We also received flowers, plants, and a baby tree as donations from The Horticultural Society of NY.
